shop girl, jar head: hoo rah

saw these two movies today. excellent, thinking of picking up steve martins book as a result of enjoying the movie. honestly didn't think i'd be able to stomach claire danes' doe eyes, but was surprisingly affected by her performance. jason s. provides that offbeat, odball comic relief that leaves you going wtf? after every sentence he utters. and steve martin himself is well suited in the downplayed role of the likable jerk. shop girl is worth the gold.

as is jar head. i qc-ed (quality checked) a print tonight. very good macho boy brothers in arms fraternity war crazed trigger happy sexually defunct thumb twiddling marine drama. excellent in writing, direction, cinematography, performance (the likes of peter sarsgard and jamie foxx shine alongside jake gyllenhaal), etc. a study in how boredom, hype, sexual frustration, and military mind fuck can drive a young man partially insane.

my paycheck was utter shite, but i push on. my rent is due this sat., con-ed and cable overdue. i don't cry. i won't cry. i don't dispair. i won't give up. i've got a long way to go before i am my own person and not just a slave to the machine.

my mother offered to let me claim my brother again this tax season. i'll try and get a bigger place to live with the return. and this time i won't fuck it up. a person has to get their shit together at some point in time. when will it be my turn? perhaps 2006. we'll see. i've had more 2nd chances than i can count.
